Design Approach: Learning Landscape / Playscape-Based Campus Design
Delhi Public School, Kollam was envisioned as a “playscape” where learning extends beyond the classroom into the outdoor environment. The landscape integrates play, ecology, movement, and interaction to create an active learning setting that encourages children to engage with nature and one another through everyday experiences.
The campus is organized through layered public and private zones including tree grove parking, pedestrian walkways, kindergarten play courts, dining courts, skating arenas, athletic tracks, central lawns, and nature-based learning spaces. Native planting, interactive walls, shaded tree courts, tactile materials, and climate-responsive features were carefully integrated to support sensory learning, biodiversity, safety, and social interaction.
Inspired by progressive educational landscapes globally, the project reimagines the school environment as an immersive landscape that nurtures curiosity, play, emotional well-being, and informal learning beyond conventional classroom settings.
