Design Approach: Terrain-Responsive Landscape Design

Rooted in the client’s heritage within the spice and herb industry, the landscape for Wilson’s Cliff House is envisioned as a sensory journey through a “living pantry”. The terrain-responsive design treats the 1.21acre site as a vertical garden, where the rugged slopes of Poomala are repurposed into productive and aromatic terraces. A defining feature of this phase is the compound wall constructed from rammed earth, utilizing mud excavated directly from the site. This choice not only honors sustainable building practices but creates a warm, earthen backdrop that beautifully complements the vibrant, textured foliage of the medicinal and spice-bearing flora.

While Phase 1 establishes the foundational infrastructure and botanical identity, the master plan is set to evolve into a comprehensive wellness retreat. The site will eventually host a gathering hall, villas, a spa, and an amphitheater, all nestled within the emerging herbal groves. By integrating the client’s professional passion into the land’s natural contours, we have created a landscape that is both an homage to their craft and a functional sanctuary. Every path and plateau in this cliffside project is designed to immerse the visitor in the scents and textures of a curated, spice-rich ecosystem.
